Meet ANZ Intern and IBL Participants

We thought it would be a good idea to share the thoughts of past Summer Intern and Industry Based Learning participants who went on to secure a role on the ANZ Graduate Program.

What was your best learning experience from completing the ANZ Summer Intern or IBL Program?

Intern Program: After years at University being able to do whatever you want, how you want and when you want, a structured team environment is a change. Learning how to get things done in this environment, manage relationships and prioritise has helped me enter a corporate work environment on a permanent basis. Of course, you learn skills related to your role. But it is the broader skills that you take away from your internship that gives you the credibility that sets you apart from your peers when you return to university.

IBL Program: Working on the Financial Reports that went out to the market at year end. Was a great feeling to know that you were involved in something people really valued.

What would you say to people who are unsure about applying for a Summer Intern or IBL Program?

Intern Program: Finishing University and entering the work force is a significant transition. If you are thinking about taking the Graduate path, a Summer Intern Program is a terrific way to experience working in a corporate environment while earning some money over the summer. Taking an internship allowed me to start building internal networks at ANZ that I still use in my Graduate role.

IBL Program: Do it! It will give you invaluable experience for when you are applying for graduate positions when you finish University. Plus it really changes the way you study when you finally get back to Uni; you'll find you may be more efficient and understand things a lot better after seeing the practical application.

How did the ANZ Summer Intern or IBL Program benefit your career?

Intern Program: A Summer Internship at ANZ gets your toe in the door to internal networks that your managers and colleagues can help you access. You are also identified as a potential graduate and it gives you credibility to perform in the work place. From day one, I was able to use my experiences as an intern to navigate my new work place and confidently approach the challenging tasks that graduates face at ANZ.

IBL Program: It gave me Industry contacts that I still keep in contact with, and it eventually led to me being offered a graduate position with ANZ.
